The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. - Richard Dawkins

Okay, here's a mind blowing thought:
What if one of these days, (and this is not so far-fetched according to current scientific thinking) the computers that we have created developed to a point where they became sentient?  (Self aware)  What if the internet became a sort of self-aware neural net, complete with emotions, fears, love, hate, desire and all the other emotions of sentient beings? And what if those sentient computers took it into their head to take over our authority?  Would we be justified in destroying them, to preserve our own existence, and our own authority?
Now take it a step further.  What if (again this has been discussed by theoretical physicists), what if WE are actually a simulation in a giant computer network created by a being we know as "God".    Could it be that God  has foreseen that we are reaching a point of self-awareness where we could eventually take over his authority? Could it be that the whole story of the Garden of Eden, and the sin of eating from the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil", is a built in algorithm (similar to Asimov's Laws of Robitcs) designed to prevent us from over-reaching programatic limits and taking over his authority?
